GLASGOW — Top Gear Live made its debut in Scotland with five shows from Jan. 17-19. Based on the British TV show, and featuring presenters Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May along with show character, “The Stig,” the production included a variety of live stunts and challenges. PRG supported the event’s lighting and rigging needs.

More details from PRG (www.prg.com):

Lighting designer for the show, Steve Sinclair of KCrew Ltd, has been lighting Top Gear Live internationally since 2003. For Glasgow, he programmed and operated the lights using a Road Hog console. Steve talks about working with PRG. “Of course I’ve had a long association with PRG and they never seem to disappoint! I was after a different look this time around, gone were all the generic Pars, ACL’s and Moles, and in were lots of LED wash lights and beams. It was quite a departure from the norm for this show so I needed someone I could rely on and to help make the transformation with me, and Andrew & PRG were there every step of the way”.

PRG’s Account Manager, Andrew Strachan worked with Steve to provide a mixture of lighting fixtures for the rig. The rig consisted of VL3000s spots, VL3500 washes, GS Beams & Impressions X4s. PRG also provided the rigging for the event which included over sixty CM one tonne Motors and over two hundred meters of truss.

Martin Bellamy from PRG was the Project Manager for the shows, with Richard Griffin heading up the lighting crew onsite as Crew Chief.

Andy comments “Steve’s design was fantastic. The show looked amazing with such a great variety of different looks. Steve had over 200 cues for the show and each one looked as good as the last. Great eye candy.”

The SSE Hydro is soon to be hosting some exciting events for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, including Gymnastics, and Netball. Opened late in 2013, the arena was designed by internationally-renowned architect Sir Norman Foster to ensure that its amphitheatre-style arena is perfect for the sports programme. The high-octane Top Gear Live shows set the scene at the arena for their very own suitably sporting theme.
