CHARLOTTE, NC — Christ Lutheran Church, home to one of the largest Lutheran congregations on the East Coast, recently expanded with a new 1,450 seat sanctuary. AE Global Media provided Mega Systems’ Dicolor U6B LED Display to enhance the church’s visuals and overall worship experience for its traditional and contemporary services.

More details from Mega Systems Inc. (www.megasystemsinc.com):

Donnie Haulk, Designer for AE Global Media specified the Dicolor U6B LED displays because they solved architectural and maintenance problems. “Initially, the church wanted to use projectors,” says Haulk, “But with the amount of natural light in the room, the cost of projectors kept going up.“ Not only that, the space in the back of the sanctuary needed for projectors was taken up by organ chambers. They considered rigging them, but there were too many restrictions. All these challenges were what allowed AE Global to suggest using an LED video wall system. After the Senior Pastor, Scott Suskovic saw them at WFX, the church decided to change out the projection system for 2 16:9 Dicolor U6B LED Displays from Mega Systems, Inc.

Even on the sunniest day, the U6B LED Display can be seen clearly. Media Technical Director for Christ Lutheran Church, Jeff Taylor says, “The color and clarity are just phenomenal.” He added, “The projectors we used before highlighted the message, but nothing like this. These panels completely enhance the worship experience for our congregation.” Using the U6B LED Display also eliminated the six-month maintenance needed with projectors.

During the contemporary service, the video is utilized in a number of ways. Lyrics and graphics are displayed for worship music performance. During preaching, they use it for a sermon note, text or chaptering verse to support the sermon. And, image magnification is utilized for webcasting.

Sometimes the system is turned off during the traditional service. This was taken into consideration when completing the overall look. AE Global media designed cavities inside the wood wall of the stage to fit the panels perfectly. They also went with a black face LED. “There was great coordination between the architect, AE Global Media and Mega Systems to construct a cavity that didn’t distract from the architecture” says Haulk. As a result, when the system is turned off, it doesn’t draw attention away from the pastor.

The addition of the Dicolor video wall elevated the atmosphere for worship in the new sanctuary. Both Taylor and Haulk are very happy with the product and the outcome of the installation. Now the use of the Dicolor U6B LED Display is tied to a very prestigious honor for house of worship installations. As a result of their hard work, AE Global Media received a national award, the Best Design, Installation & Operation (A/V & Lighting) Solomon Award for Christ Lutheran Church.
