“Matilda,” “Lucky Guy” and “The Nance” Take Top Tony Honors for Lighting, Scenic Design

NEW YORK — Matilda the Musical garnered top Tony honors in the Musical category for both Lighting and Scenic Design. Tony winners for Lighting and Scenic Design in the Play category were Lucky Guy and The Nance. The award for Best Musical and Best Play went, respectively, to Kinky Boots and Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike. The awards were presented at Radio City Music Hall June 9.

The Tony-winning lighting designers for 2013 were Hugh Vanstone (Matilda the Musical) and Jules Fisher and Peggy Eisenhauer (Lucky Guy). The Tony-winning Scenic Designers for 2013 were Rob Howell (Matilda the Musical) and Ann Roth (The Nance).

Other nominees for 2013 Tonys included, for Best Lighting Design of a Musical, Kenneth Posner (Kinky Boots, Pippin, Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella and, for Best Lighting Design of a Play, Donald Holder (Golden Boy), Jennifer Tipton (The Testament of Mary) and Japhy Weideman (The Nance).

2013 Tony nominees for Best Scenic Design of a Musical also included Anna Louizos (The Mystery of Edwin Drood), Scott Pask (Pippin) and David Rockwell (Kinky Boots). Best Scenic Design of a Play nominees for 2013 Tonys included Santo Loquasto (The Assembled Parties), David Rockwell (Lucky Guy) and Michael Yeargan (Golden Boy).
