The Umwelt Arena, a large-scale futuristic structure designed by René Schmid Architects, shows an expressive synergy among external form, construction techniques, ecologic materials and purpose, that’s providing a suitable venue for discussion of sustainability issues from multiple standpoints: social, economic, energetic, ecologic.
The Umwelt Arena features a specially shaped array of photovoltaic panels, covering its hood as an envelope.
The multi-faceted shape of the Arena displays a crystal-like appearance.
The environmental impact has been kept as low as possible during the construction of the building; also the Arena runs CO2 neutral, thanks to the photovoltaic panels and to its ‘thermo-active’ structure, including two large water storage tanks accumulating heat and cold under the foundation.
That’s why the Umwelt Arena is referred to as the first environmental arena in the world.
The Umwelt Arena, which can hold up to 4,000 people, has been fitted with a network of 79 x LED moving heads NRG 1200 CT.
Their environment-friendly operation, ensured by a very low energy consumption and a long-lasting LED source, perfectly match the Umwelt Arena ecologic purpose.
Other reasons for choosing the NRG 1200 CTs have been their light quality, the possibility to set any color temperature from 2.700K to 6.500K, and their pan/tilt capabilities that let remotely reconfigure the set up at any time.
The lighting system, specified and supplied by PLUSMUSIC AG, has been installed by the company SOG-Unilight AG.
The NRG 1200 CT units are hung above the wide floor space, their main purpose being main lighting.
As each unit is DMX-addressed, any function can be controlled individually, so the lighting system runs in a dynamic way: each NRG 1200 CT light body can be aimed at any point and linearly dimmed, providing an unmatched flexibility of operation.
