Unity AB Architectural Ballast Driver from Lightronics

Share this Post:

The new Unity AB series from Lightronics is designed to control high efficiency lighting sources such as LED light fixtures and dimmable compact fluorescents. The AB can be ordered to control a three-wire hot-switched ballast or a four-wire 0-10VDC-type ballast. The AB is available in a three- or six-channel version with a maximum load of 20 amps per channel. Control is via a DMX-512 console or any of the Lightronics Unity architectural remote stations. Scene recall can also be accomplished using a momentary contact signal from a switch, motion sensor or similar device.

The AB series has Quick DMX addressing features that sets the starting channel. Users can also soft-patch each channel to any of the DMX 512 control channels.

Many fixtures of these types cannot operate reliably at low levels of intensity. The AB has a cut-off feature that allows the user to set a low-level threshold for each output channel. The AB also offers a choice of four different dimming curves that include: incandescent, CFL, LED and FLOU (for fluorescent ballasts).

Users can create scenes for the AB series with a DMX console and snapshot recording, or by using the on-board menu and controls to set channel level intensities and scene number assignments. Fade times are adjustable from 0 to 99 seconds.

The AB series may also be configured as a relay device instead of as a dimmer. Contact closure relays with 250 percent overload protection are used to switch circuits on and off. In the 3- and 4-wire dimmer models, this feature is used to switch power off to the ballasts when the lighting circuits are not in use. In the Non-Dim version, it can be used to power LED Fixtures on and off as required, as an alternative to running the electronics and cooling fans 24/7.
