Production Perspective:

Tony Fransen, Lighting Designer/Director

“For this tour, Sara wanted a bigger aesthetic, and to have an actual set.  She wanted it to be feminine, elegant, yet be able to punch you in the face.  So I put together a design based on eight rolling panels that were very curvy in nature that had a number of key lighting elements attached.

“I chose the Martin MAC 101 because of its size and it’s amazing output.  Those little eight-pound lights can really punch.  They were very nice, and gave me a ton of options.

“I like to call myself a ‘boutique designer.’  In other words, I’m not putting 300 large format moving lights into my designs yet, so it’s really exciting to see where lighting is going, and the ability to have large amounts of LED fixtures allows me to have a big look in a small package.  It’s been fun to be able to program those big color chases and multi-group bumps that you see on the big shows with my little rig, and its smaller budget.  Very exciting times we live in.

“Our lighting company is De Lux Productions / TLS, Inc.  The support I received from Scott DeVos and the TLS crew was amazing.  I feel like they have my back, and when you are out on a tour all alone that really counts.”

“Sara was very involved from a design standpoint, we went through a couple different designs until she landed on the eight panel design.  I think she really liked the curvy feel, and the silver shimmer drape.  Once we got into the programming she really allowed me to be artistic and made the creative process a ton of fun.  She knows what she wants, and that is so refreshing.”

“Designing and lighting concerts is truly what I love to do, but getting to do that with a crew that has your back really made this one very special.  We became like family this year, we went through some really hard stuff, but we were able to help each other out, and I can honestly say this crew, band, and Sara made the tour really special.”
