LD POV:
“This tour is a fun project to be involved in. Amy Lee (singer) is very creative, and its great to work with. She’s an artist who wants to be involved in all the creative aspects of the live show. The music has strong contrasting elements: Amy’s soaring angelic vocals, the crunchy guitars, the haunting piano sections, the ethereal orchestral accents….so it’s important that the light show can reflect the juxtaposition between these. The backdrop concept came from her idea of re-creating the album artwork: the band’s name with lights coming from behind it. I then worked out how to achieve this with soft goods (we have the album artwork printed onto fabric, behind this the band’s logo applique-ed onto sharkstooth to form a huge gobo), and photo-shop-ed the album artwork to remove the logo. The show is playing a wide variety of venue sizes (we are on show 5 and have so-far played arenas, sheds, clubs & theatres), so everything has been made as separate elements so we can get the optimum effect at any trim. Upstage of the drapes are 2 minibeam trusses, sub-hung from Genie Towers… these trusses each have 30ft of ColorBlaze and a few atomics…. enabling us to achieve the backlight effects from a very short throw distance, and without any risk of heat-damage to the soft goods. All elements of the lighting design have been chosen for their impact, and compact stage footprint.” -Dan Hardiman (LD)
