Thank you to everyone for the warm welcome to PLSN. It is an honor to take the helm of one of the industry's most respected magazines and news sites. As the new editor, I want to introduce myself and tell you a little about what we have in store for you. I live and breathe the entertainment industry. I fell in love with it at an early age and always felt at home in a dark theatre making magic happen on stage. I have worked in almost every aspect of production. From the squint sitting in the catwalks waiting for my turn to focus a light, to designing and spending countless hours behind a desk programming and perfecting cues, to bellying up to the bar to share production horror stories.
My love for our industry runs deep in my veins. I get goose bumps even thinking about it now as I write this. In the past couple of years, I wanted to share my experience, knowledge, and love of the industry by starting a blog called iSquint. I started it with one goal in mind – sharing information and connecting people from around the industry.
My goal is to bring that same passion and love of the industry to these pages of PLSN, as well as online at plsn.com and ProLightingSpace.com. PLSN has a strong connection to the industry and has brought industry news to you for the past 11 years. I want to keep that tradition alive and going.
Winston Churchill once said, "There is nothing wrong with change, if it is in the right direction." It has also been said, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." It's with these two quotes in mind that I take the reins of PLSN and look to the entertainment community to help strengthen PLSN in the years to come.
I want to know what works and what doesn't work for you, our valued reader, and what you want to see more of. PLSN is a magazine by industry professionals, for industry professionals. In order for us to serve you better, I am encouraging the community to speak up and let us know what you think. My digital door is always open.
I have already begun to hear from readers about their thoughts and opinions of PLSN. I welcome all comments. For example, there has been some concern that print is dying. In this day and age, we expect news coverage around the clock. We are accustomed to getting information at any moment we want. I come from the digital generation. I love everything about technology. I get it. Technology has made our lives easier and kept us connected across the country and around the world. We are smack dab in the middle of the technology boom.
But, print is not dead. There are numerous members of the industry who enjoy a printed magazine. I am included in that group. It is exciting to open up the mailbox and receive the latest edition of a magazine. It's physical, you can touch it, smell it, and if you want, taste it, though I don't recommend it.
For those who prefer a digital copy, PLSN has offered a digital subscription of the magazine for the past five years. We will continue this option for years to come. We are also looking at alternative ways to distribute PLSN. I would love to share these plans, but they are just that at the moment – plans.
In due time, we will begin to offer these sorts of alternatives to our readers. But why fix something that isn't broken? It's our goal to be able to offer our readers the way they want to read the industry news and stay informed. So we offer options on how you read PLSN and interact with our community.
PLSN has been a leader in social networking by offering a forum for industry professionals to connect called ProLightingSpace.com. It is our online community where professionals from all levels and around the world can, share ideas, photos, videos, and connect with members. You can also engage with the PLSN community on Twitter by following @PLSNMaga zine and on Facebook.com. These are bright spots for PLSN, and we'll continue to foster their growth as well as new technologies.
I look forward to bringing you PLSN each month jam-packed with industry news, insight, and reliable information. The PLSN team is made up of some of the finest writers and visionaries in the industry. It is an honor for me to be part of the family.
