Creative Technology Supports Set Design for 2010’s “Strictly Come Dancing”

LONDON – Creative Technology supported Patrick Doherty's new set design for the 2010 season of Strictly Come Dancing with Barco MiTrix LED displays, CT's Flyer 18 displays and Barco FLM projectors. Doherty's new set featured two curved proscenium arches evoking the ballrooms of the 1920s with Art Deco styling. The MiTrix LED displays couple with the arches while the Flyer 18 display serves as the main set backdrop.

This year's set also had a mezzanine floor with stairs descending on both sides, providing the presenters, dancers and guest acts the option of using a second floor as part of their performances. Each step riser was also fitted with MiStrip.

The six FLM projectors were used to project images and graphics on the wood-toned studio floor.

The schedule for the shows had rehearsals taking place on Thursdays and Fridays, with shows broadcast on Saturdays and Sundays, and the entire set needed to be taken in and out of BBC Studios' TCI every week.

Four engineers helped tackle that weekly challenge, led by CT's John Parsons, and their efforts increased further over Halloween, when the schedule shortened by a day, and for the halfway-point weekend, when the set needed to be installed in Blackpool's Tower Ballroom rather than a studio.
