The Roskilde Festival’s Green Footsteps program encouraged fans to act with care for the environment before, during and after the festival. Lighting supplier Comtech also helped house and visiting designers walk the walk at the main Orange stage with energy-efficient GLP impression fixtures featured in the rig.
The Orange stage was lit with 74 impression 90 units, nine impression XL fixtures and 32 impression 120 RZ zoom units, providing designers an array of effects and beams. Comtech also supplied gear to other stages, and Comtech LD Lars Nissen and Mikkel Bach Nielsen helped guest LDs use the gear.
“The GLP impressions were such a hit last year, that it was an easy decision to ensure that they were included again this year,” said Nissen. “This not only worked from the festival organizers’ point of view, who wanted to maintain the policy initiated last year in keeping energy consumption down, but also the designers, who love them too. In fact a lot already use them in their shows,” he said.
Four days of operation in a dust-covered festival environment is a good testing ground for any lighting fixture. Mikkel Bach Nielsen, who was manning the front of house consoles for the fourth year running, noted that “the units worked flawlessly during the whole festival, we never had to touch any of them.
“I think the XLs impressed all the LDs that came through,” Nielsen added. “Most of them knew the Impression, but not the XLs, and they were so bright that even the daytime bands were using them.”
