The Killers Tour with Chroma-Q Color Web

LAS VEGAS —The Killers’ Day & Age world tour is knocking off some big visuals with 2,852 square feet of video effect backdrop created by Chroma-Q™ Color Web™ 125 LED panels. Tour LD Steven Douglas saw the semi-transparent video surface as a way to enhance the band’s performance rather than detract from it. In addition, Douglas needed something that would take up very little truck space and could be curved into different shapes, due to the design of the stage truss configuration. He considered several popular LED video surface solutions before opting for the Color Web system, which he had used on a previous tour.

“The Color Web ticked all the boxes for what I needed for this particular tour,” Douglas said. “As a low-res product it is a great option. For the people in the front of the stage it is just a bunch of coloured dots at this distance, so doesn’t detract from the band’s performance. However, as you get further away you start to see the images take shape, so at a distance it acts as an enhancement.

“In addition,” Douglas added, “the Color Web has allowed us to hang a full video wall very quickly and has been easily manageable, loading out very quickly with one tech and a couple of stagehands. This means we save money on truck space and crew members.”

The panels are configured as a 60-foot-wide, 28-foot-high curved back wall with three 16’ circles truss-mounted above the stage. In addition, the LED webbing covers the band’s on-stage backline.

Douglas chose a mixture of custom video content designed for the tour, stock footage and photos he took himself. In addition, he’s using the Color Web backdrop in solid colors as a lighting tool.
