Picking up the pieces is what has been happening as of late. Do you know when you start little projects here and there, but they never get completed? I happened to get quite a few of those done by finishing my ESP Suite at home. In doing so I needed some key components to be able to make it all work. First was getting Boot Camp up and running on my iMac. You heard in my last blog talking about how I couldn’t get it to complete the windows setup. It turns out it didn’t have service pack two, and to run Boot Camp you must have service pack two or higher for it to properly install windows.
So what now? A colleague of mine referred me to a nifty little program named “NLite.” This program can slipstream an updated service pack within your installer files and create a new bootable .iso so you can be up and running in no time. Once Boot Camp was finally squared away it was time update my graphics card. It turns out when windows is installed in Boot Camp it gives you a very simple version of the graphics card. So, it is imperative to locate the graphics card maker and model to download its newest version so you can get full use of ESP Visions tasty graphics. The last key component I needed was my Enttec USB Pro box to utilize any hard console I would need to use in pre viz. It’s always convenient to use the consoles PC version on your computer along with ESP Vision if your graphics card is a top of the line. If it is a lower end card running a PC console with ESP will slow both programs significantly and cause you to get agitated, so it’s always nice to be able to use a hard console and do everything as you would on show day. These tidbits play an important part for me as a freelancer. Having an ESP suite in my house really helps me take advantage of my free time for expressing my ideas with designers, artists, and companies before the gig starts. I can correct things in my show file from last year and add new tricks to try out. The great thing about it all is that I can walk 10 feet from my bed to do it….. EvvvvvvvVeryDAY!
