Barco Launches Transformable LEDs

KUURNE, Belgium —Barco has introduced transformable LEDs, which allow designers to use its LED technology in freeform shapes. The company introduced its new concept to over 200 European and Asian customers attending Barco’s 10th annual Rental Partner Meeting. The product will be introduced to U.S. customers at Barco’s North American rental partner meeting, set for March 9 to 12. The freeform LED concept starts with compact LED pixel modules that can be used as building blocks to sculpt freeform designs. The modules can also be combined with a variety of specifically-designed carriers (mechanical structures) into different shapes. Shown here is one of many shapes that can be created using the company's Snake carrier for its FLX-60 transformable LEDs.

The pixel modules feature 16 bit per color processing and a high refresh rate to allow them to perform like Barco’s LED video displays.

“Transformable LED is an exciting new product, unseen in the market,” said Carl Rijsbrack, VP product management. “The pixel modules are designed to remain a stable basic component. However, the structures can be frequently transformed into new shapes, trends and needs providing the best possible return on investment for our customers. We will keep updating and expanding our carrier portfolio to offer our customers unlimited creativity options, now and in the future.”
