MIDDLETON, WI — ETC (Electronic Theatre Controls, Inc.) is once again offering its Student Sponsorship program, which will give six college students the chance to attend the LDI tradeshow in Orlando, Fla. from Nov. 20 to 22. The application deadline is April 30. Now in its 10th year, the scholarship offers undergraduate seniors and graduate students an all-expense-paid trip to the show, where they get to work hands-on in ETC’s booth, network with industry VIPs, meet their peers, and see the latest in show technology.
The sponsorship includes roundtrip airfare, hotel accommodations, all meals, a full conference pass, an exclusive student reception, and ETC swag. Students in lighting design, theater technology or closely related fields are encouraged to apply.
Those interested can pick up applications in person at ETC’s booth, #1100, at the USITT conference in Cincinnati, Ohio, March 19 to 21, 2009, or download an application from ETC’s Web site at www.etcconnect.com .
ETC also announced the achievements of some of the students sponsored in past years:
• Andrea Bilkey (2001) is an associate professor of lighting design and computer-assisted design and drafting at Texas Tech University. She also serves on the light lab committee for USITT’s lighting commission.
• Jon Harper (2006) is the resident designer for the Theatre of Youth, the Torn Space Theatre and at Niagara University in Buffalo, N.Y. In 2008, he won a Buffalo Artie award for best lighting design.
• Greta Stockwell (2004) is a technical director for Center Arts at Humboldt State University and a resident lighting designer for Inland Pacific Ballet in Claremont, Calif.
• Adrian Tan (2006) is a technical lighting officer at the National Museum of Singapore, where touring groups from all over the world perform.
• Jason Underferth (2006) works as production manager and resident lighting designer at the Commonweal Theatre Company in Lanesboro, Minn., and is a freelance lighting designer working throughout the upper Midwest.
