STOCKHOLM, Sweden — LD Pelle Larsson used Martin Professional’s 1500-watt MAC III Profiles and Martin MAC 2000 Wash XBs to light the Grammis, Sweden’s answer to the Grammy Awards. The event was staged in January at Hovet arena in Stockholm. Larsson also designed the set for the program, which was broadcast on Sweden’s TV4. “The wishes from the producers were for unique lighting looks for each of six acts,” Larsson said. “I wanted a plain retro look with a lot of possibilities and we really managed to accomplish that with use of the MAC III Profile.”

Larsson, who works on behalf of Stockholm-based lighting distributor Lightland, produced the visual designs for acts including A Camp, Timo Rääisinen/ In Flames, Robyn/Christian Falk, EMD, Christian Waltz and Takida. Lightland was one of the first companies to acquire the MAC III Profile fixtures last fall.

“I have used Martin equipment for a long time now, because you can always trust that everything will work when you really need it,” Larsson said. “So when I got the opportunity to see the MAC III for the first time in Denmark last summer I was impressed with the output and the optical features. I basically decided immediately that I would use them as soon as possible.”

Launched last fall, the MAC III Profile has already seen service on a number of tours (including James Blunt, Andre Rieu, and Raphael), television productions and other events that can benefit from the fixture’s new design features and its potential for outputting a bright, fat beam.

“No doubt this is a powerful tool for every lighting designer,” Larsson said. “What I like the most besides the output is the speed of the zoom — it is great,” he said. “And the bright idea of putting in a battery backup for easy access to the setup personality and addressing is outstanding.”

Along with the MAC III Profiles and the MAC 2000 Wash XBs, the designers and crew used a Martin Maxedia media server programmed by Robin Larsson to provide graphical content to a backdrop LED screen.
