SYDNEY — Anolis ArcSource 6 RCWB LED underwater fixtures are illuminating a water sculpture located at Regent Place, the “vertical village” designed by U.K.-based Foster & Partners. Regent Place consists of two towers rising above a five-story sandstone podium that features retail, commercial and leisure spaces. Above the 5,400-square-meter, three-level shopping center, the development includes 657 apartments. Foster & Partners needed to provide a public artwork at the buildings entrance to meet building planning requirements, and commissioned Phil Goodwin of Waterforms International to design a water sculpture for the space.
The water sculpture design serves as an organically-shaped counterpoint to the geometric style of Foster’s architecture. It includes a series of eleven craggy, overflowing pools that recirculate 5,000 liters of water per minute the cascading pools and a balance tank located two floors below.
The sculpture is lit with 94 Anolis ArcSource 6 RCWB LED underwater fixtures controlled by an E:Cue e:node 512 wall mounted user terminal. This is programmed to run color changes during the night, giving the sculpture a luminous glow visible from the center the streetscape.
With a 316 stainless steel housing and a IP rating of 68, plus the ability to provide programmable color change effects underwater, the ArcSource 6 RCWBs were well suited to the job. The fixtures were also custom-made for this installation to accommodate the client’s specific colour choices, and feature two red, two cool white and two blue LEDs.
Waterforms International initially used this project as a pilot, and has followed on with the use of these same fixtures in several other projects. Anolis distributor ULA Group supplied the gear, and ULA’s Con Nomikos coordinated and oversaw the project.
