Robert Juliat Followspots for Alice Tully Hall

NEW YORK — Two Robert Juliat Victor 1800W followspots have been installed at  the renovated Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, which is used for music, theater, dance and film.  Part of a multi-theater project, the renovation required that 150 existing fixtures be picked up and refurbished, with the purchase of a few new instruments as well. Consultant Fisher Dachs specified the followspots, which were purchased through Barbizon Lighting. Terence Larsen, Alice Tully Hall’s associate director of  concert hall production, found the instruments well suited to the venue. “I’d taken one of my stagehands with me to see the Victors at Fisher Dachs,” Larsen said.  “I thought it was exactly what we needed.”

The Robert Juliat Victor 1159 1800W followspot features an electronic ballast, hot restrike ignition and double condenser zoom optical system. The company also touts a 100 percent closing iris and 100 percent closing mechanical dimmer. A six-way color changer system features removable filter frames, and the frost filter frame on the flip lever comes at no extra cost.

Robert Juliat’s Fred Lindauer, who’d met Larson at LDI, said the quiet operation of the instrument was another selling point, and Larsen said he also likes the ease and control with which the Victors operate.  “I’m quite glad we chose Robert Juliat Victor followspots,” he said. “They’re terrific.”
