Designers Support Light Relief, Behind the Scenes

NEW YORK — The U.S. and U.K. based charities Behind the Scenes and Light Relief are joining together with an opportunity on April 24 for designers on both sides of the Atlantic to donate their royalties to help their colleagues in need. Rick Fisher started the event in the U.K., called Light Relief Day, in memory of the charity’s co-founder, Tony Gottelier. Now Rick and other leading designers Ken Billington and Ken Posner, all of whom have shows currently running on both Broadway and in the West End, have taken the next step to make this an international event.

Designers who are involved with a show, whether it’s in London, New York, in their hometown or on the road, can join in to make April 24 a day of giving thanks and giving back. By donating royalties for one day, they will be supporting these two organizations, which provide financial assistance to industry members who are seriously ill or injured, or to their surviving family.

Those who don’t get royalties can also join in by raising funds through backstage collections, raffle tickets to the show and autographed programs.
