BRUSSELS, Belgium — Every December, the city of Brussels organizes Winter Wonders, a Christmas event that draws about three million visitors to the city’s Grand Palace. Barco’s LED MiStrip units are playing a role in the month-long series of nightly sound and light attractions called Electrabel Nights in Brussels, which were designed and produced by Magic Monkey. This year’s design turns the Grand Place into a lit-up forest with animal sounds and groups of MiStrip masts arranged around the 20-meter-high Christmas tree. The masts, each equipped with two speakers, are synchronized with the sound track, draw visitors from around the Grand Place and invite them to walk through the array of fixtures.
“This show is a new cutting edge step in the architectural lighting by integrating the actual environment and including the public into the show,” said Marc Largent from Magic Monkey. “Even though the center of Brussels is extremely busy during the Christmas period, the Grand Place offers a heaven of tranquility for the visitors to relax while watching this modern fairy tale.
“Barco’s MiStrip allows us to push our designs as far as possible,” Largent added. “Their flexibility creates unlimited possibilities, and we designers are very lucky to have creative LED tools like the MiStrip available on the market today.”
The evening program starts at 4:30 p.m., but an ambient version of the show can also be seen during the day as well.
