BOSTON — Scharff Weisberg helped LD Marc Brickman and assistant LD David Marcucci light two performances held at Symphony Hall Boston by Columbia Records’ jazz artist Chris Botti, performing with Keith Lockhart and The Boston Pops in shows that also featured Sting and Steven Tyler from Aerosmith. The design needed to work for DVD, Blu-ray and a subsequent PBS broadcast as well as for the live audience — with no time to spare. “I’m amazed that they could pull all the equipment in time,” said Marcucci, who needed to fulfill Brickman’s vision for “a smoky jazz look” while avoiding anything that would clutter up the venue’s box-like environment. The designers called on Chris McMeen, head of sales at Scharff Weisberg Lighting, who outfitted the concerts with an assortment of Vari*Lites for spot and wash.
“We were going for a classic “Marc Brickman” look — low side light, moving lights only,” said Marcucci. “Marc had put together a really interesting package, and Scharff Weisberg came through for us. I was truly impressed with what they’d delivered. Chris was terrific,” Marcucci added. “He understands what’s needed in terms of lighting supply to make an extraordinary show happen.”
