Clearwing – Where it all begins…
"Back To School" Super Prepping for concerts and corporate is very organized at Clearwing Productions. Everything is labeled properly for who, what, when, where, why, how much aspects of the packing and shipment for the clients. A very dedicated and knowledgeable staff has helped me learn so much in the past few weeks. So here’s what I came up with from all the note and picture taking I’ve done.
Placement, placement, placement! Not every cases gets put back in fact some are left alone like 5/6 way soco cable that is extremely heavy and numbered a certain way that is always consistent this goes for 3 phase cable too.
Power Cables for Lighting- All with 3 pins
Edison- Standard basic power cable universally used almost everywhere.
Stage Pin- 3 pins literally. Used primarily for par can/source 4/leko lighting. They will attached from the lights powers source.
L6-20 aka hubble or twist lock- looks a lot like Edison cable but with more rigid ends. Used a lot for moving fixtures and rigging power.
Soco cable is a thick lighting cable that comes in two types 2.4K and 1.2K. It all depends on how much power you are using that determine which you should use. From what I’ve observed 1.2 is used for dimmers and the 2.4 is uded for moving fixtures, atomic strobes, anything with a high power output.
Soco Tutorial- 2k soco has an engraving on the cable that’s marked 14 conductor , 12 AWG (amount of ground pins) light cable always used 3. 1.2k the count is lower. Three happens to be the magic number for lighting power.
Crossovers- There are crates full of crossover cable to turn around power to another type. For example if you have a edison power cable and need it to change to a stage pin or L6-20 you can just grab the one that fit and you’re all set. This helps for testing when a lot of the cable you may need is out on a show elsewhere and your hands are tied. When doing connections that may not lock too well always use some electrical tape to ensure the connection. You can never be too sure!
