Moving on with the tour update… So I left off when sound check ended in Moline. The gigs went really well I got to use a lot of my own rig and their dimmer board for pars. In most clubs it usually happens that way. They have the dimming system and I’ll bring in the automated lighting. It’s even better if they have both though! The first night was ok, but the second night was a lot more fun considering there were 200 people there for the first set.
Here’s a few shots Erik our Sound Engineer took from the past couple nights:
So after the gig we loaded everything out and headed back to the hotel and got some rest. The next morning we had a 5 hour drive to Indianapolis and we got to eat Easter dinner at Ryan’s (our lead singer) Dads place, finished a case of booze and some Jack Daniels. Today we’re catching up on email and all that jazz before we head to the gig tonight. I’m pretty excited to see what kind of gear they have in there. We talked with the production crew of the venue and they have the lighting system on PC. I’m sure it’s going to be a Martin Light Jockey. A lot of clubs tend to have that program. I’ll catch up with you all after the gig for a bit then we gotta run to Chicago tomorrow to open up for a band at the Cubby Bear right by Wrigley Field. More to come later tonight!
The gig at Birdy’s was AWESOME. They have a really cool system to work with:
12 Par 56
16 Channel NSI Dimmer Console
6 High End Trackspots
Martin Light Jockey

My Rig of 2 moving heads, two scanners, two LED pars, and consoles… Check out the presentation!
Club tours are so fun for me especially at places like this. I like getting to use different systems jointed with mine. You get the clubs look mixed with your own that you created for the band. I like to think it combines two kinds of realms. Don’t get me wrong there can be terrible house systems to work with and I have had that misfortune a few times and you have to do one of two things: deal with it or bring in your full rig and not use theirs at all. That’s why planning ahead with a production manger or in my case, myself is key to making sure everyone is happy especially the band and club manager. They most certainly don’t want people coming in that don’t know their shit. That’s why I am a manual reading maniac. I get my info on what I’ll be working with, download the PDF file and get things moving. Most places now a days I can walk into and get things cracking, but others you can run into problems that’s why stage riders are very important.
Next we’re off to Chicago to open up for a big national act even though I’ve never heard of them, go figure. That will be a quick show, and I’ll be running the house rig because I wouldn’t want to put the headliner to shame. Wouldn’t that be awful!? Plus it’s out of respect of course and besides is that it’s a plug and play then we’re hitting the town afterwards woo-hoo!
