I’ve got the same crappy e-mail account at AOL that I’ve had for 15 years. I pay a stupid monthly fee for this. People don’t forget my address, though. And I’m not about to change it. It’s a business expense. And not changing it has paid off. Fifteen years ago, I did a small show that I had long since forgotten. But I gave a card with all my old data on it to a production assistant vowing to keep in touch. I didn’t. So last year I get an e-mail from this person I have not seen or heard from since 1991. The subject was titled, “Hey Nook, remember me?” I didn’t recognize the moniker and I thought it might be junk, but I opened it anyway. It’s a good thing. This production assistant had blossomed into a TV producer over the course of time. He remembered me from that long ago and had a great gig for me. He tried to call my old numbers and was thankful I had kept my e-mail account. The money from that gig will pay my AOL bill forever.
